About me
I view therapy as a collaborative inquiry. My aim is to help clients harness their strengths to meet the challenges that life inevitably presents. By providing a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere, I encourage clients to explore and experience a broader range of thoughts, feelings, and imaginings and to seek ways to find meaning and richness in their lives. I also help clients to have more fulfilling and genuine relationships. Underlying all of my work is the belief that clients have the capacity to heal themselves, given the right guidance.
I work from a variety of theoretical approaches, including psychodynamic, relational, trauma-focused, existential, and mind-body. I work with clients who experience trauma, grief and loss, adjustment problems, relational difficulties, substance abuse, interpersonal violence, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and dissociative disorders. I bring warmth, empathy and humor to my interactions with clients.
I am a licensed clinical social worker and see adults (18 and up) and couples. Before becoming a therapist, I received a doctorate in philosophy and taught at the college level in an interdisciplinary curriculum based on classic texts. I also served as a dean of students, working closely with the mental health team on campus. I have experience in private practice settings seeing a broad range of clients, as well as with substance abuse, domestic violence, and homeless populations. I have received post-graduate training in a variety of modalities, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for both couples and individuals.
